Compulsory Insurance Unit

Compulsory Insurance Unit – CIU is founded as an entity within the Insurance Association of Kosova – IAK, with the decision of the Board of Directors of IAK, and POOL agreement, between Insurance Companies which are licensed to operate in Kosova.

Compulsory Insurance Unit – CIU deals with the selling of TPL Border Insurance Policies, these policies are issued for all vehicles with foreign plates, during their entry and stay in Kosova.

Border Insurance is regulated with Insurance Rules, approved from Central Banking Authority of Kosova – CBAK, respectively with the Rule 3.

Rates for Border Insurance, according to the POOL agreement, are unique, and are applied according to the type of the vehicle.

Compulsory Insurance Unit – CIU has its selling points in all entering points (border points) of Kosova, where this insurance is being sold. Also as selling points are another two points, within the territory of Kosova, and they are the selling point in the Headquarters of IAK in Prishtina, and one selling point in Prizeren, where the right for selling Border Policies is given to the Insurance Company "SIGURIA".

There are 12 selling points in total, for selling Border Insurance Policy, as follows:

  1. Selling point in Prishtina – IAK Headquerters
  2. Selling point in Podujeva – Merdare
  3. Selling point in Mitrovica
  4. Selling point in Glloboqica
  5. Selling point in Hani i Elezit
  6. Selling point in Prizeren – Vermice
  7. Selling point in Peja – Kulla
  8. Selling point in Gjakova – Qafe Morine and Qafe Prushi
  9. Selling point in Kamenica – Dheu i Bardhe
  10. Selling point in Gjilan – Muqibabe
  11. Selling point in Mutivode
  12. Selling point in Leposaviq – Jarinje

Claims

According to the POOL Agreement, between Insurance Companies which are licensed to operate in Kosova, claims from the Border Insurance Policies are handled from the Claims Commission, which is appointed from the Board of Directors of IAK, and is consisted from 5 members, who are experts in the field of Insurance and are employees of respective Insurance Companies, and they change every year pursuant to the rotation system.

There is also the second level commission which handles the complaints of the parties which are not satisfied with the decision of the first level commission, even this commission is appointed from the Board of Directors of IAK, with the rotation system.

  1. Police Report, copy of the original
  2. Copy of the damaged vehicle – in color or in CD
  3. Report on the damage on the vehicle from the Insurance Company of the Claimant
  4. Driving license of the driver - photocopy
  5. ID card of the driver and the owner of the damaged vehicle- photocopy
  6. Vehicle Document - photocopy
  7. Domestic Insurance policy for the damaged vehicle – photocopy (A 4)
  8. The card of the bank account – photocopy with sixteen numbers
  9. Court decision – photocopy
